Curriculum Snapshot

We tailor our DIY Builders™ curriculum to be adaptable and meet students where they are developmentally — introducing the right tools, techniques, and concepts at each developmental stage. Below is an example of how learning objectives and methods, project complexity, and skill applications may evolve within this program.

Grades TK - 1

  • Focus: tactile exploration, play-based assembly techniques, safe and minimal tool handling

  • Project Examples: Tangram Jr puzzle, Winter Ornament, Tic-Tac-Toe, Wall Clock

  • Skills: Fine motor skills, following instructions, counting, sorting, and differentiating parts, creative expression

Grades 2 - 5

  • Focus: simple assembly, fastening, & tool-use techniques and reinforcement of physical education, arts, and core academic standards through real-world applications

  • Project Examples: Derby Car & Ramp, Balance Board, Finger Basketball, LED Light Frame

  • Skills: Critical thinking, creative problem-solving, safe tool handling, completing multi-step projects from start to finish

Grades 6 - 8

  • Focus: complex assembly, fastening & tool-use techniques, career exploration & CTE-integration, project and decoration planning

  • Project Examples: Collapsible Organizer, Lockbox, Wooden Bluetooth Speaker, Portable Stool

  • Skills: Technical precision, advanced tool handling, reinforcement of career technical education standards, visual design, and personal expression
