Overview

Explore the science and art of a plant’s full lifecycle. Students plant their own seeds, cultivate and track their plant’s growth, and harvest their produce to enjoy in a tasting experience. Blending science, food literacy, and creativity, students will walk away empowered by the experience of growing and enjoying their own harvests.

We tailor our Grow-It-Yourself curriculum to be adaptable and meet students where they are developmentally — introducing age-appropriate concepts in gardening, food systems, and plant science. Below is an example of how the curriculum approach and activities may evolve within this program.

Grades TK - 2

  • Approach: sensory-rich, play-based exploration of nature and plant life

  • Skills: Fine motor skills, counting, sorting, and differentiating plant parts, early science concepts, arts-integration

Grades 3 - 5

  • Approach: structured, hands-on gardening experiences that deepen scientific understanding of how plants function and how humans interact with the environment

  • Skills: identifying plant needs, recording and interpreting observations, exploring where food comes from, and practicing sustainable gardening techniques
