Take-Home Kit
Program: Microgreens
Initial planting and system assembly can typically be completed in 20–30 minutes, and we recommend 60–90 minutes to allow time for learning, observation, and personalization. This project is appropriate for students in grades TK and above.
Objective: Grow Microgreens Using a Self-Watering System
Students will learn the fundamentals of plant growth by setting up and maintaining their own self-watering microgreens system. Using hands-on learning, students will assemble their growing station, plant kale microgreen seeds, and monitor growth from seed to harvest.
Throughout the process, students gain an understanding of responsibility, observation, and basic plant science while experiencing the full growing cycle. Students can personalize their growing stations and explore how environmental factors like water and light influence plant development.
Instructors then have an opportunity to reinforce learnings by prompting questions such as:
What steps were required to successfully set up your growing system?
How does the wicking string help deliver water to the plants?
Why is consistent light important for plant growth?
What responsibilities are required to keep plants healthy?
